Family of slain Detroit woman seeks answers about incident
Detroit —The family of a Detroit woman shot to death after she is believed to have sought help at a Dearborn Heights home is calling for answers in the incident.
The family of Renisha McBride, 19, said she went for help after a car accident around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. She died of a gunshot wound to the head after knocking on the door of a home on the 16000 block of Outer Drive near Warren in Dearborn Heights, near where the accident occurred. Her cellphone battery had died, her family said.
Few other details about the incident have been released by the Dearborn Heights Police Department.
“Dearborn Heights (has) identified the person who fired the shot and killed the woman,” according to a press release. The statement added that a final report on the shooting will be forwarded to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office for review in the near future.
McBride’s maternal aunt, Bernita Spinks, said the shooting was not justified even if the resident believed McBride was an intruder breaking into the home.
“He shot her in the head ... for what? For knocking on his door,” said Spinks on Tuesday. “If he felt scared or threatened, he should have called 911.”
Spinks said the family met with officials from the Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday. Spinks said she believes her niece was racially profiled.
“You see a young black lady on your porch and you shoot?” said Spinks.
“He killed my niece and he needs to pay for it. He needs to be in jail.
“There was no window broken. My niece didn’t bother anyone. She went looking for help and now she’s dead.”
Services for McBride will be 11 a.m. Friday at House of Prayer and Praise, 16520 Wyoming in Detroit.
All this young lady wanted was some help. The woman wasn't trying to break in, she didn't threaten anyone's life, and she certainly didn't have a weapon. Someone is knocking on your door so you automatically a$$ume they're breaking in and instead of just calling the police you OPEN the door so you're standing face to face with the person you're supposedly afraid of so you can shoot them? He just shot her because he "felt threatened"? How does that make sense? All he had to do was ignore her or call the police if he felt threatened.
They said the shooter was White. I'm sure he's going to do like Zimmerman and try to plead self defense.

It's sad to hear things like his happening, I'm not always up on the news lately because it's so depressing sometimes. I know that Dearborn is a Arab neighborhood, but I can't imagine what type of street she was on that didn't have other vehicles passing by to ask for help.

For those who don't know, besides being the Arab capital of the world, this town is notorious for reelecting an openly racist man/segregationist for 9 terms (1942-1978). Mayor Orville Hubbard came up with the slogan "Keep Dearborn clean." Of course, we all know he meant keeping Dearborn clean of blacks. This guy was considered the most outspoken segregationalist north of the Mason-Dixon line.
In fact, during the 1967 riots in Detroit proper, he ordered police officers to "shoot looters on sight." He once examined the bullet wound of a black victim who was killed and said "it's an open-and-shut suicide case." He even said stuff such as "I’m not a racist, but I just hate those black bastards." and "I don't keep the n*****s out of Dearborn. I don't keep anybody out of Dearborn. I haven't done anything to encourage them. I don't do anything to discourage them."
And also, Dearborn is where Henry Ford (who was also a notorious anti-semite/racist) built Ford Motor Company and his empire. While they say this was because Ford enjoyed the country life, it also just so happen to be far away and relatively inaccessible by the blacks and other minorities who lived in inner city Detroit at the time too.

its a damn shame that you can't even turn to people for help anymore without risking your damn life, and the shooter didn't even call the police after he killed her, her body had been left on the porch after her death, but police since determined that she was shot there, so clearly the shooter didn't immediately fess up to what he had done, if he lied to the cops that should be reason enough to lock his sorry ass up

The majority of people will peep out and see who it is before they answer a door. How many people answer a knock at their door with a gun? A shot in the any other body part might be considered an accident, but not a shot in the head! I will carry a prayer with me and remain positive that the justice system will begin to work in favor of the innocent.

DETROIT, MI -- Civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton addressed the killing of Renisha McBride in a brief statement Friday morning.
McBride, 19, of Detroit was shot to death early Saturday morning outside a Dearborn Heights home on Outer Drive, where her family believes she was seeking help after a car crash.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's office said it can't issue charges against the homeowner who shot her without more information from Dearborn Heights police.
The shooter told police he thought McBride was breaking into his home and that his shotgun fired accidentally.
Activists have been demanding an arrest in the case, which has sparked outrage and social media activity on a national level, reminiscent of the response to the 2012 Florida shooting of Trayvon Martin, a black teenager who was shot and killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer.
"We are in prayer for the family of Renisha Mcbride but we are also urgently calling for justice for the loss of this daughter, sister, and friend," said Sharpton in a statement issued by the Michigan Chapter of the National Action Network, which the reverend founded.
The group was planned to hold a press conference on the matter at a Detroit church at 11 a.m. Friday, just as McBride's funeral is scheduled to take place a few mile away on Detrot's west side.
"When these incidents happen often time investigators try to prove guilt or not guilty in the investigation, but action was taken that led to a murder," said Rev. Charles E. Williams II, head of NAN's Detroit chapter. "Whether guilty or not guilty, that should be for the jury and court to decide."

Renisha McBride, 19, went out Friday night and Monday morning her mother got a call that broke her heart. Police told her they found Renisha's body in Dearborn Heights. Now, they're trying to find her killer. Bernita Spinks wants closure and justice. McBride was her niece.
Police found the teen's body near Warren and Outer Drive. They say she had a gunshot wound to the head from a shotgun. Family members say Renisha was soft spoken, hardworking and stayed to herself. Bernita thinks she was killed in Detroit and dumped in Dearborn Heights because of its close proximity to the city.
"All our kids are getting killed. We're burying our kids. It's devastating," she told Fox 2.
Renisha was driving a white Ford Taurus when she left home Friday. No one knows where she was going. Her family hopes someone will come forward with information about her death so her killer is brought to justice.
"Just as well as it's my niece and my sister's daughter, it could be your kid," said Spinks. "If you're watching and you heard anything or [saw] anything don't feel like [you're] a snitch. Come and tell what you [saw]. Give us some closure. Help - let us know what's going on, help the police out."{End Quote}
What changed? How'd she go from being dumped to being on the porch? If it was self defense how did she get from the house to a dumpster? And why has the story changed?
