In 1950, wordsmiths/scholars/activists Rosa Guy, John Oliver Killens, Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Willard Moore, and Walter Christmas founded the Harlem Writers Guild (HWG) to develop and aid in the publication of works by writers of the African Diaspora. It has been in continued existence since its inception, making it the longest running African American literary organization.
