News spread in cheer as same s*x couples were elated as the Supreme Courts considered and decided that the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act was unconstitutional. In addition, the 2008 law enacted in California banned same s*x couple from getting married. The DOMA refused to allow same couple any possibility of receiving same benefits of any federal compensation as marriage of an man to woman. The other law of Proposition 8 lifted the ban of same s*x marriage, which also allows states to allow marriage of the same s*x to marry with their own laws. Many same s*x Californians were more than ready to take advantage of their wedding day. DOMA has allow the definition of marriage to be change, no longer being between a man and a woman. However, there are many of Americans are in agreement with the marriage definition changes, yet opposition still is heavily felt among the traditional meaning of marriage being only a man and woman. Many religious groups are opposing the law and though it has been reported that 1/3 of the country have viewed that equality is the major element under laws that govern all people the same rights to federal benefits.
