8 Nutrient-Dense Foods That Improve Cholesterol (930 hits)

High cholesterol can lead to plaque formations in the arteries that cause heart attacks and strokes. This most commonly results from elevated LDL ("bad") cholesterol and triglycerides (fat in the blood). Reduced HDL ("good") cholesterol can also play a role, as it is responsible for removing LDL cholesterol from arterial walls. You can greatly improve your cholesterol by eating nutritious meals and making healthier food choices. The following nutrient-dense foods have been proven effective in lowering cholesterol.

1. Red Kidney Beans

Like most legumes, red kidney beans are cholesterol-free, low in saturated fat, and exceptionally high in dietary fiber. Regular consumption of dietary fiber greatly promotes removal of LDL cholesterol. Just one cup of red kidney beans provides over 50 percent of the recommended daily intake of fiber.
