Exodus 12:13 - Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where they are. And when I see the blood I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
If there's one thing that makes Satan hop up and down and get totally frustrated, it's spiritually applying the Blood of the Lord over your possessions and family. The reason is simple - he can't get near, even if he wanted to! I was really interested to find out an error in my thinking once concerning this passage of scripture. I misinterpreted it completely. When it says, "…I will pass over you; and the plague will not destroy you …", I was under the impression that the Lord was going to pass over Egypt and destroy the firstborn of the houses that did not have blood over them. But then I discovered that it actually meant something different. It was the Angel of Death (a demonic angel) who passed through the land and destroyed the firstborn. The Lord also showed us that where the houses were covered by the blood, His Spirit actually hovered over them like a barrier so that the Angel of Death could not come near there to destroy them.
I was a little confused for a while by this different interpretation, but if you look at verse 23 of the same chapter, it is a confirmation of what I learned. It says this: For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you. Isn't this so amazing? The enemy cannot destroy you because of the Blood of the Lord. When Jesus died for you and shed His Blood, it had the same effect. It has put a barrier between believers and Satan, because the Spirit of the Lord is in us and His presence 'hovers' around us. Where the Lord is, Satan cannot gain access. Sure, he's going to try real hard to get his foot in the door and he'll use any way that he can to get your eyes diverted from the Lord or onto something else to make you ill-effective. But the good news is that he can't destroy you, because the Blood of the Lord Jesus is against Satan and He's there for your protection. In Revelation it talks about believers overcoming by the Blood of the Lamb and the Word of their testimony. Of course the Word of testimony is the written word of the Bible. So here lies a powerful combination for overcoming Satan in your lives - acknowledging the power and protection of the Lord's Blood, and speaking the Word of the Lord against Satan. Remember Jesus' method when He was tempted? He said, "It is written …", "It is written …", "It is written…" I bet Satan cringes when he hears those words, because it reminds him of the victory that Jesus overcame when He was tempted.
You can use the same methods and get the same victory too. Why not give them a try?
