Thousands Take Action to March for God’s Design for Marriage (582 hits)
A national organization will hold a Washington, D.C., march later this month. The event will take place the same day the U.S. Supreme Court begins hearing oral arguments in cases challenging a national and state definition of the institution as a union between one man and one woman. Sponsored by the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), the March 26 event will provide a platform for people to show their support for God’s design for the institution. Dozens of organizations and ministries across the country — including Focus on the Family and CitizenLink — have signed on as co-sponsors.
“The fact that so many have gathered in response to these critical court cases should give everyone hope as we find our way forward,” Focus President Jim Daly said in “March for Marriage: Why Marriage Matters,” a video about the event. “You and I know that we’re standing on firm ground. God’s design for marriage has always been about bringing together the two distinct and complementary expressions created in His image: male and female — two people coming together in oneness capable of bringing forth new life.” Several keynote speakers — including President of High Impact Leadership Coalition Bishop Harry Jackson, Concerned Women for America President Penny Nance and the Rev. Jim Garlow, senior pastor of Skyline Wesleyan Church in La Mesa, Calif. — will address the crowd.
“Alongside the other great speakers we’ve already got lined up, we are very happy to add the name of Professor Robert Lopez, who gained national attention this past August with his heartfelt appeal in support of marriage, particularly in an article that tells his story, “Growing up with Two Moms: The Untold Children’s view,” said NOM President Brian Brown. “I look forward along with you to hearing Professor Lopez at the March, giving his compassionate but honest assessment of the consequences of same-s*x marriage for children in our society.” The event will reflect the diversity of the marriage movement. “Men and women of every walk of life, every color and creed have professed from time immemorial that to make a marriage, you need a man and a woman,” Brown explained.
The march marks a pivotal moment in America.
“On that day thousands and thousands of people will be demonstrating their support for the definition of marriage endowed by God at the beginning of civilization,” said Executive Director of CitizenLink Tom Minnery. “That day is historic, because on March 26 arguments will be heard in the Supreme Court on what marriage is all about; and will the institution of marriage endure so that children have the best chance to have a mom and a dad?” Daly encourages marriage supporters to stand strong in their beliefs. “Marriage is an example of God’s common grace that transcends fundamental differences,” Daly said. “It was designed and given for the benefit for all humanity. We must continue to lift up and celebrate God’s magnificent design in this unique and irreplaceable relationship between a man and a woman.”
