Human Rights Campaign: Please Thank Senator Portman for Doing the Right Thing for Marriage Equality (786 hits)

Here's an email I got in my in box from the Human Rights Campaign for Pro Marriage Rights for GLBT Community...

Dear Jennifer,

On Thursday, Republican United States Senator Rob Portman of Ohio made history by announcing his support for marriage equality.

Join us in thanking Senator Portman for taking this stand.

His change of heart came about for the same reason that millions of others have taken a fresh look at this issue around the country: someone close to him came out as gay. In the Senator's case, it was his college-aged son, Will. As Portman told reporters,

"It allowed me to think of this issue from a new perspective, and that's of a Dad who loves his son a lot and wants him to have the same opportunities that his brother and sister would have – to have a relationship like Jane [my wife] and I have had for over 26 years."

Please thank Senator Portman for doing the right thing.

Thanks to fair-minded American leaders like Senator Portman, more people across the country are pausing to reflect and change. Soon, every parent will have the chance to see their child grow up and experience a loving, committed relationship that is no less than equal.

Sincerely,

Chad Griffin
President
