Sunday MTA Update:
Service Added as Clean Up ContinuesMTA Long Island Rail Road and MTA Metro-North Railroad continue to restore service as the cleanup from Nemo continues. Service is being added back to the schedule today, Sunday February 10th, on those parts of the commuter rail network where the rails are clear and it is safe to resume normal operations. Work to remove ice and snow from signals, switches and other components in areas hardest hit by the powerful winter storm, which dumped in excess of 30 inches across parts of the MTA service region, is ongoing.
The Long Island Rail Road is providing near-normal weekend service on most branches as storm recovery efforts continue. Weekend service is restored on Ronkonkoma, Huntington, Babylon, Port Washington, Far Rockaway, Long Beach, Hempstead and Oyster Bay branches.
Metro-North is operating a regular Sunday schedule today on the Hudson and Harlem Line (Including the Wassaic Branch). A regular Sunday schedule is also in affect on the New Haven Line between Stamford and Grand Central Terminal. Service remains suspended between Stamford and New Haven, as well as on the Branch Lines until further notice as crews work around the clock to clear the lines of snow.
Subway service is operating on a regular Sunday schedule, with all weekend work canceled. However, some trains will operate as locals while subway cars remain stored underground along express tracks in parts of the system to prevent them from being blocked in yards by drifting snow. Bus service is operating on a regular Sunday schedule, but there may be weather related diversions and detours. Paratransit sedan service is suspended, only van service is available. Customers are advised to limit travel or stay home if possible.
All nine MTA Bridge and Tunnel crossings are open and operating normally. Motorists are asked to allow extra travel time and operate at reduced speeds due to wet road conditions.
New York City TransitNYC Transit crews and snow fighting equipment continue working to clear ice and snow from signals, switches track and other critical components. More than 1,000 employees have been assigned to clear platforms and stairways of snow and ice. Salt spreaders and plows are worked throughout the day to clear roads around depots and along bus routes. There are very minor weather related delays in bus service, and subway service is operating with scattered delays. Paratransit sedan service is suspended, only van service is available. Customers are advised to limit travel or stay home if possible.
Trains not required for service continue to be stored along underground express tracks to prevent them from being blocked in yards by drifting snow. Due to the storm, all weekend subway work has been canceled.
