YOUR WORLD NEWS JANUARY 2013 DAY 27 Santa Maria, Brazil
It was .. Thousands packed a popular night spot called Kiss on Sunday, January 27, 2012. The pyrotechnics show went horribly wrong as the prelude ended in a burning kiss of fire. The blaze which took the lives of 233 people, a later report has indicated that at least 245 are reported dead. The inferno started with a spark setting fire to a sound proof roof. Panic and dismay surged as the huge crowd ran and stampeded to the exit. While many claimed they were held up by club bouncers not aware the club was burning stopped many from exiting the building. With thick smoke and speedy flames, little visibility prevented hundreds of people escape safely. Police stated most deaths resulted from smoke inhalation; or were trampled from fleeing and terrified concert goers. Bodies crowed the exit causing escapes to a gory creep, and many ran into bathrooms hoping to find security from the smoke and burning building. Because of the tremendous body recovery a temporary morgue was occupied by a local gymnasium. Devastated relatives wept bitterly, and some funerals are being arranged immediatelyto bury the dead. Club owners will probably face some allegations of violating the fire codes and wrongful death suits and some were arrested for questioning. Many of the club goers were students from the university town. A similar club fire happened in 2003 in Rhode Island where 100 died.
