ERIC HOLDER FACES ALLEGED CHARGE IN CONTEMPT OF CONGRESS (845 hits)

Fast and Furious...in brief
The United States Attorney General Eric Holder has been alleged as being in comtempt of Congress. A House committed in a vote of 23-17 to hold Holder's in contempt after he refused to comply with a supeona seeking documents related a controversial Justice Department gun-tracking program called Fast and Furious. Hours earlier, President Obama asserted executive prilivege to keep the documents confidential disallows the turn over of the documents sited in the project. In order to proceed with further action, the administration would have to abandon the executive privilege to protect the documents disclosure. If followed through it could take years of court battles to resolve the project documents or any mishandled, or misleading involvement. If Holder is found guilty of and is charged he may face a criminal case, but past history has indicated that other cases of contempt of congress were never successful.
Read fast... What is Contempt of Congress? Contempt of Congress can be when a person refuses or fails to comply with a congressional subpoena. A contempt of court can happen in three ways...
. Via Congress' on poweres--Congress can use its inherent powers to detain and inprison someone until the person complies with congressional demands.
.Via the executive branh--Congress can certify a contempt citation and ask the Justice Department to prosecute under a federal criminal contempt statue. {But when the subpoenaed information is protected by executive privlege, the Justice Department has historially declined to prosecute}
. Via the judical branch-- Congress can seek a civil judgment from a federal court to declare a person legally obligated to comply with a congressional subpoena.
However stonghold is alleged with Holder chances are he will not find his way to court or jail time.
Irma, some news reports claim it's all a political plot being it's an presidential election year. ISSA and the whole operation may have some explaining to do, as far as documents go; and Mr. Holder because he's the Attorney General is the mainly the one they want to be held accountable if it's controversery in those documents to be uncovered... Again, it's one of those we'll watch and see things I think. Great observation IR.
watching The Ed Show@msnbc yesterday one contempt of Congress was shown...it was Issa telling EH to do something totally illegal and why and how it was illegal which he did not do. (smile)
Issa has done all he could do to back out of this mess, but as the GOP and the Teaparty are out to eath each other alive, it just got beyond the powers of Issa to stop tis election year train wrech. (nup)

Watching on c-span today the coverage of the House last Thursday, I could only shake my head and say, "ONLY IN AMERICA', because...
Eric Cantor has evoked a 'Privilage Resolution' to prevent the democrats learning what they will be bringing before the House their reasons for bringing a contempt vote against EH...the House was going over their agenda and Steny Houer brought up this question saing since they will be having the Jobs and the student dead line coming up next week this would allow them more time to allow coverage of these if they have an idea what they will be looking at next week!!!!!!
what went through my mind at this refusual to discuss the matter was someting Issa said right after the vote and someting I doubt he would have said if he knew the camera was on him righ t after the vote...
Issa said, don't forget to put in those changes...but then the Republicans and the Teaparty seem to be more interested in bringing each other down , "I" believe in the real our president is only secondary to the right-wing. (smile)
..."I" have been left wondering if the House's Privilage Resolution' is in any way like our president's executive Privilage???????????????????...lol...
