What New Facts Can We Teach and Discuss in Black History Month? (577 hits)

As Black History Month approaches, I wonder what new facts we can teach and discuss in classrooms and social groups. I suggest we talk about our history with food. Why not consider using these facts from the book Sojourn to Honduras Sojourn to Healing.

1. The best replacement for black pepper is cayenne pepper.

2. Funio fufu is a more nutritious fufu compared to cassava and yam products.

3. Cassava is a starchy tuberous root, rough and light brown much like a potato. But in this raw form, cassava is not only full of starch, it's full of cyanide.

4. Chickpeas, high in calcium and iron, stand as the best alternative ingredient for bean pie recipes.

You can preview Sojourn to Honduras Sojourn to Healing at the book's website. You can purchase it there too or amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com. In the meantime, see the senior citizen rock climber and herbal medicine specialist who offered these facts at www.sevendaysinushavillage.com/sitemap.aspx

Take care and have an informative Black History Month and a great 2012!
