Hey Guys! How is your New Year going so far? We are 18 days in and its been exciting for me. Towards the end of last year, I chose to step out of my comfort zone and speak some poetry. My girl Abike(Ah Bee Kay) invited me to hang out with her at a Poets Cafe on the 10th of December 2011 in NYC. The atmosphere was laid back and cool. The wordsmiths spoke eloquently and radically. Laughter was in the air. And then...it happend...My girl asked me if I would like to speak...I said yes and added my name to the list. When my name was called, I thought I would be nervous. I wasn't and I did my thing. (Ididn't get nervous until after I was finished...Go Figure LOL)
So inspired was I by stepping out like that, that I have continued going back. I've always THOUGHT about speaking my poetry to others OUTSIDE of my family and friends. I've thought about it for awhile. I am glad that I made the choice because I have embraced both the experience and knowledge that this truly something I enjoy doing.
