Today on a pbs local program in honor of Dr. King, the guest today was a college mate of his a member of MLK36 (507 hits)
and a Mexican- American political leader. Here are a few discriptions of what they say Dr. King was, and these things really fit right in with today. How the 'individual 'is much better off today, but the 'collective' ( th elease of our brothern) is still suffering as they were in King's day.How in Dr. King's day they came with whitehoods, today they come with a brief case and a cell phone. HOw Dr. King was about making the comfortable uncomfortable and to offer comfort to the uncomfortable in our society.
HOw his messages have been cheapened, because too many still will take the easy way out, like now we have a Black president so things are alright...This was done in Dr. King's days also they said. Dr. King stood up to be counted. This is a quote given of Dr. King's today by the person from MLK 365...
"THE LAW CAN'T MAKE SOMEONE LIKE ME, BUT IT CAN STOP SOMEONE FROM LYNCHING ME AND THIS IS GOOD TO". (S-M-I-L-E)
They talked about how dr. King was called ratical, but how he was first and for most a preacher who wanted to help the least of his brothern, and he was about to tackle, jobs and the poor just before his death and how his work is still left undone. (This is where the not coming in whitehoods came into the discussion)But, they said this is the purpose of what he was doing, because it is all about making it easier for those who come after you and this he was able to do. The hate and bigotry is now visiable as it was in his day, but it is there never the less.(
This was a beautiful and meaningful discussion of the memory of Dr. King by some who knew him on a personal level.(smile)
