Postal plan: Slower delivery, 28,000 jobs lost (343 hits)

WASHINGTON (CNNMoney) -- The U.S. Postal Service on Monday announced a $2.1 billion cost savings proposal that would result in the end of next-day service for regular mail and the loss of about 28,000 postal worker jobs.

The financially troubled agency officially proposed the change to its regulator, changing its national standard for regular first-class mail -- mail that requires a 44-cent stamp for the first ounce -- to two to five days from the current one to three.

Sister Irma,

I don't know but one thing is ... they have to cut back if the US Postal Service wants to stay afloat.

Massive layoffs have been a serious trend for well over 2 decades which brings to mind one of the things Obama mentioned during his campaign, saying that; The "money making machine" (for lack of better words) needed to be "re-tooled." Unfortunately, all of the re-tooling seems to be occurring outside of this part of the world... In my view, Green Technology and other Green ideas (something else Obama alluded to before the election) would solve a tremendous amount of the unemployment problem. However, the flip side of the problem is that the US is not as functional as it should be. It's becoming more and more apparent that "multiculturalism" or the "idea" thereof, is panning out to be a failure. Until WE get it together, we'll continue to be victimized by a system that does not have our interest within the framework of it's priorities. PEACE
