It is with disappointment that we announce that just a short time ago, we received word that, in light of potential safety concerns posed by Hurricane Irene, the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial March & Rally and dedication service scheduled for this weekend has been postponed until further notice.
The Friday schedule for the Dedication Week will continue as planned, while Saturday's National Prayer Service will serve as the final event of the Dedication Week. Additionally, the Memorial will be open to the public, weather permitting, on Saturday, from 7:00 AM to 12 noon.
Please stay tuned for an update on the official Dedication ceremony, which will be moved to a date yet determined in September or October.
Many thanks to you all for your continued support of Dr. King’s legacy, the NAACP, and the civil rights community – and please, travel safely, wherever your destination this weekend.
Best,
Rev. Charles L. White National Field Director NAACP
