When my husband spoke at an interfaith service, a man approached him to talk. In a short time, my husband learned that the man had been a practicing homos*xual for years and was now suffering from AIDS. In further conversations, he found out that the man's mother was a Christian and had been praying that he would come to Christ before he died. He did and was radically changed. He told my husband that he didn't know if he could change his orientation, but he knew he could change his behavior.
The subject of homos*xuality is a complex one. In the Christianity Today article "Sin in the Double Helix," Karen Swallow Prior claims that reports linking moral behavior to genetic traits actually prove Scripture's claims, not undermine them. And if we are a product of our genes, we must look beyond them for hope and victory.
In our 3-session Bible study What Does the Bible Say About Homos*xuality?, we look at Scriptures that help us deal lovingly with our gay friends and relatives, while still standing with the truth of Scripture concerning our moral behavior.
