Commentary For Discussion: What Does The Bible Actually Say About Gay Marriage? (1264 hits)
Several days ago, a historic vote in the state of New York, pushed aggressively by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, legalized the practice of same-sex marriage. Such an action was certainly a momentous decision for marriage equality rights in the LGBT community.
The vote was not exactly sui generis, but the fact that it occurred in a large and populous state in the country drew more media attention than, say, Vermont. The media focus is a double-edged sword for the issue of same-s*x marriage: it exhibits an enlightening progress in our culture concerning the LGBT community, and it also gives voice to the cacophonous opposition, not only directed towards same-s*x unions but towards same-s*x orientation itself.
Such opposition quite often utilizes religion as a bruising hammer to drive home their message, and often the Bible is invoked to justify any anti-gay argument. Groups opposed to same-s*x marriage cite Biblical passages to endorse their rejection of any marriage amendment while condemning same-s*x practice in general on the basis that the Bible "says" it is wrong. Now that the celebration of the New York vote has receded past the front page of most papers and news sites, we have an opportunity to examine the Biblical argument against same-s*x marriage (and against same-s*x orientation) in context.
If anything, this exercise questions whether we should develop stances based upon what the Bible "says." Simply put, the Bible is a complicated collection of documents that was never meant to "speak" to our contemporary situation, but groups often speak through the lens of the Bible and lob textual grenades on issues like same-s*x marriage. First, the institution of marriage is a secular and social institution. In different ancient cultures, marriage was more of a business arrangement, joining families together for mutual benefit. Under Roman law in the first centuries of the Common Era, there were proper opportunities for divorce and the dissolution of a marital union for both parties. ...
I posted this commentary for the persons that like to use the Bible as their sole source of argument against Gay marriage. This forum is open for discussion. ... (smiles)

nothing!
but the bibble I believe, says LOUDEST, about the result of this silliness
"the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah — from the LORD out of the heavens. Thus he overthrew those cities and the entire plain, including all those living in the cities..."

Let me explain to you all again what the Bible and Quran is. These books are the specific testimony of the Hebrew and Arabian people. The Bible tells the world a story by the Hebrew people the things that happened to them and how God helped them. The Quran tells the world a story written by the Arabian people the things that happened to them and how God helped them as well. Am I making any sense so far?
Now, if you all are not Hebrew and European gentile people as well as Arabian people then these two books are not your books. Am I making a fair statement?
At this point the question should be what do you as Black Americans things about homos*xuality and marriage irrespective of what the Bible say.
When your minds elevates to this level then you are developing your own scriptures as the Hebrew, European gentiles and the Arabian people did.
So, what do you all think about homos*xuality an average?
I will start off first to give you an example of how you should be thinking. Lesbians and homos*xuals are people created by God as all people were. I understand that while they were developing as fetuses in their mother's womb their brains were improperly wired. In other words, unfortunately they are an example of the mishaps of nature. Other mishaps are when people are born left-handed. Another mishap is when people are born with six fingers, okay. I said all that because I have witnessed to individuals in my family born homos*xual.
These people were wired to be attracted to their own gender rather than the opposite gender. Again it is just a mishap of nature. We should know this because we have the advantage of advanced medicine and psychology when the people of the Bible over 6000 years ago did not have this intelligence.
So, if we see and understand things the way people of the Bible understood them 6000 years ago then it is obvious that we have not progressed in 6000 years, mentally speaking. We, Black Americans are some very ignorant people.
