Gay Marriage Approved by New York Senate
Lawmakers voted late Friday to legalize same-s*x marriage, making New York the largest state where gay and lesbian couples can wed, and giving the national gay-rights movement new momentum from the state where it was born. The same-s*x marriage bill was approved on a 33 to 29 vote. The Senate galleries were so packed with supporters and opponents that the fire marshals closed them off.
Victory! Marriage equality in NY The hopes and dreams of millions just came true: Marriage equality is about to become the law of the land in New York. Just now, in a bipartisan vote, the New York State Senate approved a bill granting same-s*x couples the same rights and responsibilities of marriage as everyone else. It'll soon go to Governor Cuomo – a stalwart champion of marriage equality – for his signature.
