Deuteronomy 28:13 And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only and not beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.
There is a tendency among many believers to think that we are to stay humble and lower ourselves all the time. They confuse meekness with weakness. It was said of Moses that he was the meekest man in the earth. And yet he was also one of the greatest leaders the world has known.
The head and the tail are parts of an animal that picture our role in the world. The head controls the body, whereas the tail is just an insignificant part controlled by the body. Obviously the head is the more important part. How many people do you know who have trophies of animal tails on their walls?
When a person is fully submitted to the Lord, they can expect to succeed in everything related to this life. That means you start to become important. You are important to the Lord, and He will make sure that you receive due recognition in the world. He will make you like the head - somebody important. It is part of the reward of putting His Kingdom first. Did He not say that if we seek first His Kingdom and righteousness, then all the other things would be added?
But we must never forget, that it is not we who make ourselves the head. This promise tells us that as we put the Lord first, He will do it for us. That way we can never be accused of exalting ourselves. And also no one will be able to complain. It will be clear who has done it for us.
Deuteronomy 28:13 I believe was a motivational speech specifically to the children of Israel that if they observe the laws of God they will be the head and not the tail. The reference of head and tail has nothing to do with an animal. It has to do with being a subjugated people as they were when they were in Egypt. In other words, Pharaoh and the Egyptians were the head and the children of Israel were the tail since it was the children of Israel that were slaves to the Egyptians. By the way, the tail on any animal is significant. God have never designed a living creature with insignificant limbs. The tail of a dog acts as a balance and rudder Ms. Jen.
You all need to understand that prophets are racially different because what they say and do is specifically for their own people. As good as the 10 Commandments are; nevertheless, these commandments are specifically for the children of Israel and the Jewish people.
Black Americans has a genuine prophet, Prophet Harry. Similarly, the children of Israel had a genuine prophet in Moses. Moses and I are two different people even though we are prophets anointed by the same one God.
In other words, if you are not biologically Jewish as the people in the state of Israel are then Deuteronomy is not speaking to you. Am I making any sense?
@ Saint, [Stop following congregations and groups and think INDEPENDENTLY. Don't forget to ask a lot of questions when dealing with other humans because they have their own agendas.]
I hear you on this one, because you are so correct and hit the nail on its HEAD (inside joke as well)~! For me, this applies mostly to women in the church or religious world becauase you will find that the pastors use them to raise money and do all kinds of stuff for the leader's benefit. Many man are really keen about catching onto these gimmicks the leadership dishes and choose not to be apart of the congregation.
Take me for example when I was attending this church in SC called Full Gospel Word and Worship Center in Columbia, S.C. as a single Christian female; the church was mostly dominated by single females and few brothers. Being that I was always a independent thinking person and a good note taker, I was always making notes of the sermons and buying the cassettes trying to learn.
When I would come across somthing that seemed off from the scripture, I'd make a note of it and when there was question and answer time after church to speak with the pastor, I'd would bring my questions. One point that I challenged later on was when I was getting married regarding the woman leaving a church to join her husband because that's what the pastor taught; however, being that I was a dedicated church paying member (tithes and offerings), the pastor's story changed when I wanted to leave the church to move to NY with my husband to join him.
I took my notes and after the church sermon was over asked him about it. He couldn't deny the teaching, but somehow I ended up being labeled self willed and stubborn. Whatever! That was 10 years ago and there are many silly (single) women who have been led astray to stay at that church to support the pastors personal agenda.
You are so right when you stated that you have to ask questions and lots of them. Be independent in ones thinking.

Yep... the head requires discipline, obedience, etc,... to the laws, statues. I just thought about something else regarding the blog topic. The Head of the Church is the Messiah and He has placed the husband as head of the wife. Together both spouses can have dominion, but the man helps to ground the woman in things we lack like principle and analytical thinking.
For me, having a husband has truly been a Godsend. I'm of the opinion that women in the church need to be diligent to fast and pray concerning husbands so that the single women in the church aren't continued to be taken advantage of by the church leadership.
Tell me something if its not too, personal. How does Janelle feel about your spiritual beliefs and will she be following you into your beliefs about the agreeables and disagreeables?
