Norwegian MP says whistleblowing website is a "natural contender" for 2011 Nobel Peace Prize for freedom of speech.
Whistleblowing website WikiLeaks has been nominated for the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, the Norwegian politician behind the proposal said, a day after the deadline for nominations expired.
Snorre Valen on Wednesday said that the whistleblowing website was one of the most important contributors to freedom of speech in the 21st century. Valen said that by disclosing information about corruption, human rights abuses and war crimes, WikiLeaks was a "natural contender" for the peace prize.
WikiLeaks, founded by Australian Julian Assange, has released hundreds of thousands of classified documents leaked to the website. The documents have included thousands of classified US diplomatic cables, as well as confidential material on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Members of parliament from all nations, political science and law professors, and previous winners may all submit nominations to the Nobel Peace Prize. Awarding WikiLeaks the prize would likely provoke criticism of the Nobel Committee, which has courted controversy with its two most recent choices, jailed Chinese pro-democracy activist Liu Xiaobo and US President Barack Obama a few months after his election.
Assange is currently free on bail in Britain, while he fights extradition to Sweden for questioning on charges of s*xual misconduct.
What kind of peace is he trying to creat? Sounds like war to me. And how do we know what he is saying is the truth?

Although the Nobel has a catagory for Peace, I must remind you guys that it (Peace) is only one of six catagories for the Nobel Prize.

Wikileaks Cables... identified that the United States was grooming Suleman for years to replace Mubarak in Egypt. Thank you Wikileaks for leaking the truth because our govt. doesn't tell us these things.
@ THOMASENA, "I" fully agree with you on the War part except our American version and thoughts of war seem to be more related to man's killing of fellow human beings . (smile)
As this is Black history month, I remember anothe rNoble peace prize winner taht was actually killed for talking facts not subjective truths about how our government works. ?And even more important our government nor the mass media are pointing our specific things that Wilileaks has said that is not a lie(even about the $billions paid to a dictator all these years telling us it was for keeping democracy over the past 30 years and in fact our government is doing just the opposit they ae saying this is true what Wikileaks reported...home owners have been just ignored until Wilileaks about the bank of america's abuses, ect.)not even down to he actually STOLEN and not GIVEN the imformation by the American military person theynot have in jailor do we have a gitmo in the president presidentail administration right here in America?.lol (smile)

@ Clark and Rich, thank you because this is why I just voer look those who condemn me for being ahppy the right-wing is in the majority. example, they are stuck on trying to bring our president down while the wole world is trying to pay full attentioin to what is going on in the world in the middle-east, because all tings do not revolve on their having been voted for because life did not stop with this. (smile)
There is always something connected with othre things happen especially in the future, because the future is not right now no matter how stuck on stuid is being put on to us who reject it. (smile)
