Breaking News Alert from The New York Times: Russia and Qatar Win World Cup Bids (427 hits)

Russia and Qatar were chosen as the host countries for the
World Cups of 2018 and 2022. Soccer's governing body, FIFA,
meeting in Zurich, on Thursday rejected the competing bids of
England and the combined bids of Belgium-the Netherlands and
Spain-Portugal for 2018. Other contenders for the 2022 bid
were Japan, South Korea, Qatar and Australia. Brazil was
already chosen as host of the next World Cup, historically
the most-watched sporting event in the world.
