GivIng God Your Hurts Is the Ultimate Escape (489 hits)

Thursday, August 26 2010 by Rick Warren If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done. Matthew 6:14-15 (TEV)
"For your own sake, let go of the past. If somebody hurts you, let go of it, release them."

In your life, you will be hurt by others; sometimes intentionally, sometimes unintentionally. How you handle that hurt determines your happiness. When you bottle up hurt in your life and hold onto it - that's called resentment. If somebody hurt you years ago and you're still holding onto it, it will poison your life. For your own health and happiness, you must learn to forgive.

The Bible says forgive and be forgiven. In fact, Jesus says "if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done" (Matthew 6:15 TEV). They're inter-related. It reminds me of the story where someone told John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, "I just can't forgive that person! They hurt me too badly." Wesley's response was, "Then I hope you never sin."

For your own sake, let go of the past. If somebody hurt you, let go of it, release them. That's one of the values of prayer. It helps you unload. Forgiveness is the only way to get rid of the past. Forgive them and let it go. Get on with life. Forgiveness erases the videotape of that hurt memory that keeps playing over and over in your mind.

When we let go of our hurts and forgive others, we are reflecting the grace of our heavenly Father who forgave us and continues to forgive us. It means we've given God our love; we've given God our lives; and, in doing that, we worship God.

Always we should forgive. It is what our God wants of us. He is a forgiving God who asks his children to forgive as well. This is the beauty of forgivness God has for all nations.

@ Sister Sandi Absolutely!! Just today, the thoughts of unforgiveness tried to overtake my memories again. As quickly as the thoughts came, they left when I said, "I've already forgiven those people for what they did."

@ Sister Shequita Thanks for your comments to my blogs.

Forgiveness is something I know I should do but it takes me forever to forgive people. Yes I do hold grudges. Done it with my own family. I can go years without speaking to someone. It took me well over five years to forgive two of my cousins and that's only because someone in the family was getting married and we had to be civil to one another. I finally forgave my old boss at my former job probably because we hadn't seen each other since December 2006. As for my current co-workers with whom I've had serious disputes only time and distance, far distance will allow me to forgive them. Right now for the sake of professionalism and keeping my job I don't speak to certain females at work. I admit to having a bad temper so its best for me to keep my mouth shut in order to prevent a fight.

God bless you for your truthfullness and honesty. Not everyone will admit what you just did. Confession is good for the soul (confess your faults one to another and pray one for another that you may be healed~~ James 5:16a).
