Is Social Networing Hazardous to Your Job? (432 hits)
More and more employers are looking at your online profile to decide if they want to hire you...or possibly fire you.
The stats from this article are very interesting. Even though it's from 2008, just imagine that the numbers have increased (I'm researching to share the latest numbers now for an upcoming class): http://www.dailytech.com/More+Employers+Lo...
Even recently in my corporate environment & as an HR professional, I am seeing more incidents in which social networking is showing dramatic impact in the workplace.
It is critical that as a professional, you manage your online brand/identity - don't let someone else do it for you.
My free virtual class called Online Branding 101: Sistas Need Career Cred Too targets professional women of color in the description, but anyone is welcome to attend. If you're interested, stop by http://onlinebranding101.eventbrite.com to register.
I try so hard to be careful about what I post, although I'm a member of Myspace I hardly use it and I have deactivated my Facebook account since 2007. I'm pretty active here and on the other Connect Platform site (Black in America) and one other site for moms.
I really appreciate your blog because it makes me more aware of how important it is to conduct one's self maturely at all times.

Thanks so much, Jen. I appreciate your comment also because the word needs to get out. Being strategic about where & how you participate online is a good thing. We can learn to manage our online identity just like they do, or better, so that we can compete for jobs & business in a responsible way.
