Continue To Do Good (It's Not Easy, But Try) (144 hits)

By Daphne Crause
Galatians 6:9 – And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

If you have ever been in the situation where you are showing love through prayer or action to a difficult family member or colleague, you'll know how hard it is to sometimes continue with it. But Paul shares here about the importance of persevering with it. It is for the purpose of getting rewards for it.

Take an illustration from nature of a nut with a really hard shell. Sometimes you have to bang away for a while before you get it open. If you are determined enough to eat of the fruit and enjoy it, you'll push through with it.

There are times when you may be asking the Lord to help someone who has strayed away from Him and bring them back to a closer relationship with Him. Persevering in prayer is usually not that difficult, but showing love and doing good to a rebellious teenager or arrogant co-worker can be quite a different story!

You see, facing a person in the natural is quite daunting at times, especially when they don't want to accept what you stand for, nor respect your care and concern for them.

But you know you have to push through, and still do them good by being kind to them. This is absurd in the natural. Wouldn't it just be so much easier to wash your hands of them and give up in despair because you don't seem to be getting anywhere?

But keep going. Keep doing good. Keep showing love in spite of rejection and rebuffs - and often many harsh, ugly words coming your way as you share the Lord's love and concern to them.

So I want to encourage you to persevere in your commitment and continue to do good even to the unlovely. While you are doing this the Lord is busy cracking that tough exterior, and it will eventually break open. Then you will eat the fruit of your labors and be rewarded for your determination.
