The Pink Journal- Arts Must Live in Our Schools and Community (455 hits)
Art programs continue to leave our schools and the communities leaving our children lost on the streets with no where to turn for culture.
The arts have helped in development of children throughout history, music, dance, film and photography has been the balance in life for many young adults. Giving hope, joy and mostly self esteem in knowing they have a talent to deliver joy to others and reach goals for themselves.
The arts served many community organizations providing a place of refuge for children when going home presented negative results. Amazing how just that hour or more spent in an after school program added a spark to life letting a child know they were valued and appreciated.
While the focus is on education which is important, we can't forget the thousands of children needing the community resources and school arts programs to balance life and encourage excellence in order thet they someday may make it to higher education.
That list of children is long, not having parents to encourage or teach values and share culture. Many artist share the joy of cheering on children and helping to paint more beautiful life pictures through the arts.
Motion through dance, feelings through music and the imagination of the artist brush gives our children a life they can touch by creating, and appreciate the work and what it gives back to a child.
As we tackle many problem today in the Country, we can't afford to let arts leave our communities and let our children down. It is important that we create ways to continue growth for the arts allowing children to learn music, dance, writing, photography, acting and other art forms in order to build self esteem, encourage cultural curiosity and keep alive the legacy of black art and contribution to art in the future generations.
There is a strong link between art and education and we must make sure that a total disconnection does not occur for the sake of our children.
Hello, I agree. Thank you for expressing a concern for our children. They need and we need the arts as outlets where there are so few choices of positive things to do! Wish you the best!
