It’s the last day of Black History month. Can you say that you have thought about or done anything in relevance to Black History. Well here is an online exhibit you can watch and show to your kids. We always talk about the problems in our community. Well one of the problems is our history goes untaught. There’s no one out there teaching our kids (or maybe a select few teach their children) the richness of Black History. It seems everyone has a history except us. But guess what, we came from somewhere also. We were and always will be strong, beautiful and yes magnificent. We have been down trodden but always we have bounced back with a vengeance. Its time to teach our black children their rich black history. Lets preserve our history. After all, only a paragraph or so is in the history books. Its up to us. Lets see this month and all months hereafter as Black History Month. It’s the only way to retain our history, because America would not be what it is today had it not been for her Negro people and their strong backs and shoulders. Amen! I also want to remind people that Febuary is also African Canadian History Month and our histories are linked because of the Underground Railroad. Many slaves escaped north to settle in parts of Canada (Ontario, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and parts of New Brunswick) when they followed the drinking gourd --- North star.
We have a truly rich heritage & its worth teaching our children about.
