At the State of the Union Address last Night President Obama stated, "I cannot do it alone." (234 hits)

Jennifer --

I just finished delivering my first State of the Union address.

I set out an urgent plan for restoring economic security for struggling middle class families. This is my top priority, but I cannot do it alone -- and that's why I'm writing to you now.

Tonight, I called on Congress to enact reforms and new initiatives to defend the middle class -- to create millions of new jobs, support small businesses, and drive up wages; to invest in the education of our children and the clean energy technology that must power our future; and to protect the economy from reckless Wall Street abuses.

And I made my position on health reform clear: We must not walk away. We are too close, and the stakes are too high for too many. I called on legislators of both parties to find a way to come together and finish the job for the American people.

I have no illusions -- there have been setbacks, and there will be more to come. The special interests who have shaped the status quo will keep fighting tooth and nail to preserve it.

So tonight, I'm asking you to join me in the work ahead. I need your voice. I need your passion. And I need your support.

Can you help fuel our fight for the middle class with a monthly donation of $15 or more?

We have just finished a difficult year. We have come through a difficult decade. But a new year has come. A new decade stretches before us. We don't quit. I don't quit. Let's seize this moment -- to start anew, to carry the dream forward, and to strengthen our union once more.

Thank you for making it possible,

President Barack Obama

I think the single most dramatic moment that will stick in my mind was when he looked into the eye of the American people and said firmly, 'WE DON'T QUIT." Folowed by "I DON'T QUIT."

And he means it!!!

the speak was good and I enjoyed it. Do you think Obama has lost the fire, the luster that he had when first compaigned. I mean it was that same fire that got cause ppl to cross party lines and elect him.

The speech was good but was it enuff. Obama is an excellent orator. He can speak a Dr Seuess rhymn and it will come off great cuz he is just that good but there was a difference between that speech and the other speeches he made in the past.

What do you all think?

I have to admit there are some issues that I totally disagree with him on but I do applaud his efforts to make things betters. I agree we have to stand behind him and I do stand behind my decision to vote for him its just that at times he is not making himself or his administration look very competent.

The bailouts, those party crashers, health care reform and not hackers that hacked into the white house and lefts racial insults about him on his own turf. Lets not mention the race issue that is even worst now than it has ever been in this country and he is the best prez ever to be able to effectively address the issue and he won't. Maybe if he did Palin and all like her will back up a lil. i'm not saying be *****ish but be polite, polished, articulate and push back just a lil.

They think of him as a joke and that griefs me because I now this man can do and be greater than any prez before him. I also think he is spending too much time on health care and not enuff of the economy. What good is health care when people are out of work. People need to work so they can provide for their families and get that since of independence back. I am not in favor of the gov't being the saviour and cure all for everything cuz that means they would control the people and they would make us no better than russia and all those o ther communist countries. We allow the govt to 'help' they will come in and tell us what to do. Why do u think the banking industry is robbing peter to pay paul to pay the gov't back those bailout monies, cuz they don't want the govt regulating them, they are back in control once that money is paid back. The dems and repubs HAVE to really work together. Obama has the vision but some of the repubs have the know how and that is what he needs at this point.

Ms Sherry, I know Obama's job is hectic and he bears a very heavy weight and I am must definitely praying for him.

I really would like for him to address these statements that these people are making not just about him but about us as black people. The lated is whwn dude commented how well Obama articulates himself that he forgot he was black. Now what the crap does that mean, what black people can't speak well, we can't articulate ourselves well. Now its getting back and they are going toooo far and it needs to be addressed.

There is a saying that says 'silence implies consent' and the bible says the same thing but says it in a different way. These statements have to be addressed and Obama needs to find the strength and courage to do it.

I agree sometimes you have to ignore ignorance but then there is a time to put it in its place. They have to recognize and respect that he is the prez no matter what u think about him or how u ferel about him. he has to be a force to be reckoned with and he can do that without ignorantly lashing out at them the way they do him but to say nothing in essence is to agree with them.

Sister Cassandra,
President Obama when he Senator Obama addressed the race issue head on 2008 in Penn when Fox news, other news networks, and when Rev Wright was acting up (saying all kind of uninspired things by the UnHoly Ghost). He talked about race beutifully.

I think he's doing what he's being advised to do and that is to not do anything or say anything that will further distract the American people off the real agendas. Isn't that what all these other people like the Tea Party and the like are trying to do?

He's already addressed the issue of race and I don't think he should make this issue more than what it is just because of ignorance on the part of a few fearful people who will soon be in the minority in a few more years. Just my two cents worth.

Jen I hear what u are saying but real talk if the race issue is not addressed it is going to continue to divide the ppl, a nation that is already divided because of race. Things aint better cuz Obama is prez and just cuz he is prez doesn't mean our race issues have vanished just cuz he is half white and half black.

The repubs are playing the race card to their advantage. Fox, Palin, Glenn Beck they all are out their saying racial remarks and retracting them later but the words have already been spoken and it is in ppl's ears and minds, it cannot be taken back or forgotten. In court when the attorney says something that the opposing attorney objections to and the judge says 'sustained', that lawyer says 'withdrawn' but guess what, the jury still heard what that attorney spoke and even if the judge says to the jury to disregard it, the jury still heard it and it could potentially sway the juror to vote a certain way regardless of what the judge said.

What am I say? By ppl saying these racial remarks and retracting them later, the the prez forgives them but whether they retract the statement or not ppl still heard what was said and the damage is done. These remarks are just slamming Obama, they slam us as a people. 'HE FORGOT OBAMA WAS BLACK' because of how well he speaks, so how do u feel they think about ppl who are not like Obama.

Fear should never be ignored only faced and defeated.

What kills me is how people, especially the Reps, are just not giving the man a chance....I think most politicians can't/don't follow through on their promises because of all the beauracracy involved in the decision making process....although he is the president, he is only one man...and he can only do so much.
I'd like to see him be just a tadbit more firm/stern when it comes to the issues...and more clear when explaining the American public.

He's a good man; He's an intelligent man; but...he is only ONE...and he needs more support. I'm going to keep supporting him.

Firmness and Stern, thats what I'm talking about. I love honesty and I do not think he is being COMPLETELY honest about stuff and that is where the lack of clarity comes in. Me personally, I don't think he or anyone else in government has a plan. They are all fumbling in the dark, they don't have a clue cuz this lesson isnt in the history books, this is a new thing that aint been seen b4 in out history and they are all stumped.

In times like this is where the prez and his ppl need to seek God, cuz that is why we are really in the mess we're in. We have managed to stray too far from God so much so that now we got ourselves into somethings ONLY God can get us out of. Until Obama, the dems, the repubs and the american ppl go back to God and submit to HIS authority and guidance, things will worsen and sooner than later.

When pharoah had a dream that he couldnt explain he called for his council and cuz they were not TRULY Godly ppl, they couldnt interpret the dream. But God had a man that was falsely imprisoned that know the Lord to interpret the dream pharoah had and because of Joseph knowing who God is, pharoah and his land were prepared for the famine and were sustained during the famine because of what they did in their season of plenty. See, when we had a surplus, a season of plenty, we didnt do right. We went out and bought stuff we knew we couldnt afford and stuff that would never gain in value like big screen tv's they tryna give away now and now that we are in a recession some dont have a pot to piss in and a window to throw it out of. So now the gov't tryna fix something they should have fixed prior to now and if you look back some 5 -20 yrs the hand writing was on the wall even then but we and they kept on spend and now the nat'l deficit is 14 TRILLION with T dollars, who gone pay for all this.

I want those idiots in washington to stop fighting amongst themselves and fix the problem they helped create. that is what happens when a nation is divided, they can't stand and that is what Bin Laden and his peeps are waiting on. They don't have to do a doggone thing to weaken us, we doing it to ourselves and then wanna call ourselves fighting them and sitting back in a cave with a few computer and some transmitters laughing at us.

This is the modern day tower of babal. We all speak the same language but our SPEECH differs.

I agree with your statements and Obama has my support but most vital he has my prayers.
