Per Robert Gibbs: President Gibbs: Obama 'Surprised And Frustrated' By Mass. Senate Race (323 hits)
President Obama is "both surprised and frustrated" with the closeness of the Massachusetts Senate race, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs acknowledged on Tuesday.
Gibbs, during his daily press briefing, declined to get into the specifics of the president's frustration. Nor did he weigh too deeply on the implications of the race -- in which Republican Scott Brown seems poised to defeat Attorney General Martha Coakley, in the process eliminating the Democratic Party's supermajority in the Senate.
"Obviously the president went on Sunday, lent his support for Martha Coakley talked about why he believed she would be the best senator -- someone who has fought for middle-class, working-class folks in Massachusetts. We are going to have plenty of time to get in to the back and forth of all this and I prefer to do that when we know what the result is."
The most obvious result of an electoral loss on Tuesday would, of course, be to derail the passage of health care reform. But Gibbs stressed that a Brown victory would not diminish the possibility of signing a bill into law nor the president's commitment towards doing so.
"I don't think the president believes that... health care is a priority for him now. It will be a priority for him tomorrow."
Pressed repeatedly as to how a Democratic candidate could possibly lose in traditionally liberal Massachusetts, Gibbs pointed to an economic recovery effort that is somewhere between prolonged and stalled.
"I think there is a tremendous amount of upset and anger in this country about where we are economically," he said. "That is not a surprise to us in this administration, because in many ways we are here because of that upset."

The day's of straight party voting are over. The people of Massachusetts spoke on tuesday loud and clear. No more backroom deals to secure votes for poor legislation. A health care bill will never pass if so many special states and groups get special treatment. Unions received a tax exemption for cadillac health plans but nobody else did. Nebraska, Louisiana, Connecticut and Vermont received medicaide tax breaks that no other states received. I truely believe the people spoke on tuesday and they said you better listen or we'll elect somebody else. The health care bill is probably the worst legislation ever written. We need help in health care but this wasn't the bill. That's why you see President Obama's congressional support jumping ship. The Massachusetts vote just allowed members of congress to exit with an excuse for something they didn't believe in but toed the party line.
Sister Jen, are you by any chance refering to the health care reform bill with the Public Option in it???????????????????????????smile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and, besides when the Fepublicans were in Congress with a Republican president they got every bill passed taht they wanted by or does the American voter not know this(smile)
Lets see how the stock market is going to give our people in Congress the good news about they have no worry about their lobby money tomorrow...as the Democrats take over the blame game from the voters(smile)along with Jim crow...

Brother Clark, until we the public start hearing things like : the republicans got all of those jobs sent to China and our children put inder dangers because all Bush had to do was say that we could nto afford to protect our children from a product that has been banned in America...that Hillary ran on a ticket for Presidnet saying she never even read the bill to vote yes for way...that alomst 9 years of war is going to have to be paid back to china with tas payer's money, then why sould those people in congress worry about the public doing anything...

Here is another truth that "I" was so glad to hear from a liberal and regular analyst on MSNBC, Joan Walsh from Salon.com...
She said we should just accept the fact that president Obama gave the Republicans enough rope to hang himself and he did just that...now this is something I would not hold my breath for, for his enemy to LOVE, RESPECT OR PROTECT HIM WHEN HIS OWN PARTY IS NOT WILLING TO DO THIS.(smile)
