Help Me!! I went to this job interview today and they already called my manager before I could speak with her! (433 hits)
So today I went to an interview and it went well, but the references that I listed were not supervisor/manager references. So I gave the name of my current manager reluctantly because the interviewing person insisted that the references had to be previous managers of supervisors. Well the thing is my manager has only been on the job for about 2 months and doesn't know me.
I got a call from the HR personnel stating that she called this new manager of mine (who I didn't notify yet to give me a reference) for information about me! Of course they say the manager is in shock as was I, because I didn't have time to ask her for the ref.
I don't know guys. The HR from this other job is pushy and tells me to call my manager because she just hung up with her to give the ok to give a reference. I don't know, but I would think this is something you do in person. Am I out in left field on this one?
By the clues you've given here, my advice is for you to call/or set up a time to speak with you new manager to explain about the telephone call . Since you didn't have enough time to tell your current manager you used her as a reference she probably will think little of it. I think you may be taking an assumption some damage is done, but I don't see it that way. Be honest, like I know you are and ask her if they'd call again would she mind giving them her reference of you. Don't be surprised however, if she asks why are you job searching? Now that may or may not be The BIG DAMAGE QUESTION. Think on it some more. Follow your instinct. You're OKAY!

Alright guys Update time!! I went to see my manager and it only took a mere 5 minutes. She said although she's only been mgr for 3 months, she'd be more than happy to give me a reference. On my way out of her office, I ran into my old Nurse Educator and she's also willing to give me a reference. Two for one is what I call it (two references in one day)--- Hot dog!! God is good!!

Update: I went to the first day of the general orientation for the new job, only to find out from the HR personnel that she hasn't got the reference from my boss yet. The HR lady said she paged my manager on a Friday at 6pm & my eyes 'got big'! I'm like what? My manager's hours are 8a-4p and the pager is only for emergencies.
This is the kicker--- I think it's because the HR person is very AGGRESSIVE & RUDE!! One of my colleagues said the same thing when she spoke with this woman and that she thought for a moment about not calling her back, because she had left about 2-3 voice messages in two days--- but my colleague called her back becasue of me.
I really want this job, but what should I do? The HR lady says that if she can't get a reference today--- I have to wait until Feb 11th. I really want this job, but what should I do ya'll?
I will resume my orientation for the new job tomorrow. I had my ex Nurse Educator who is now director of the Cardiac Procedure Prog. give me a reference! Thanks again guys for the words of encouragement. I'll let you know how things turn out.
