Re: Black Women Can't Grow Long Hair (523 hits)

I've always thought that many of us couldn't grow long hair unless we were born of mixed parents. I don't think anyone told me this, but as I child I made observations and came to my own child-like conclusions. It's funny in a way, because I am an adult and have never bothered to check my facts about this false belief until I came across this Utube clip of One Woman's Natural Hair journey (time progressive)... I sat there with my mouth open & speechless. The girl has a gorgeous 'head of hair'!!

google search on natural black women hair...

I have hair that comes to my shoulder blades. I've permed my hair for years. I had a california curl when they first came out! I cut it all off and used to get a shape up with clippers and it still grew back. Having long hair has nothing to do with race/color, but everything to do with understanding how to treat your hair. The right products, the right nutrition, exercise, all of these things can help or hurt your hair. I'm glad you found out the truth. I think it's funny how as children, we can so easily come to our own conclusions and say to ourselves "I just always thought it was that way". I've done it myself. More than once! : )

Guys thanks for the comments to the blog... I wish that I would have seen more women in my family and in my neighborhood growing their own natural hair long rather than wearing the Afro wigs and straigth hair wigs. Even my grandmother would wear wigs for which she bougth from the "wig man". Now I'm convinced that hair growth and health is all about how we care for our hair and the hair products we use on it. Thanks again for the comments.

Jen we often can make conclusions that because we've been labled with "nappy hair" that it can't grow. I have long hair too, but I remember the time when my mother would cut it off, because she thought it was nappy. I love natural hair short or long and the beauty of it is can be beautiful hair if we give it lots of care and attention. I liked this blog too!

Who cares?

Lol.

I don't care.

Women with long hair can be extremely ugly. I mean having long hair don't make you a beauty queen. The length of a woman's hair has nothing to do with the beauty of hair contures. I think I spelled that right. Lol. Doesn't matter get a life some of you.

If Blacks were the most ugliest people in the world it wouldn't make one bit if the millions us loved us.

John, Women like to be beautiful for themselves. Is long hair something only white women like?

Miisrael your mom probably cut it (your hair) to make it easier for her. (((Lol)))

As for you Brother John, apparently this is relevant and matters since Black women are paying millions of dollars to have their hair sutured, sewen, and braided in. Where have you been anyway? Have you not heard of Chris Rock's movie 'Good Hair'...duh.

Brother Steve you are very kind to us... of course we like to be beautiful. (((smiles)))
