WHAT DOES A CHILD PREDATOR AND A LION OR AN EAGLE HAVE IN COMMON? (257 hits)

What does a child predator and a Lion or an eagle have in common? Think for a few seconds before you respond to this seemingly unimportant question. After-all, the obvious answer is that one is a creature while the other is a human being. If, indeed, that is your retort, you are, in fact, partially accurate. However, while the two or three are clearly different, on so many levels, they do share similarities and comparisons that everyone ought to be conscious of.

Ask any animal scientist and they would concur that lions, and eagles, do not just go around diving on their prey. These animals are much more deliberate than that. These animals prey on their victim, by trailing, ambushing and ensnaring them. But, what exactly does prey mean? A prey, according to Webster's Dictionary, is one that is unprotected or incapable of withstanding attack. Before we get to why preys are unable to resist attack, let’s expand on the definition with further clarification. Suffice it to say, The Oxford Dictionary, elucidates that prey is an act, habit or practice of hunting, seizing and spying. Other antonyms for this raptorial and vulturine practice are; attacker, marauder, mark, target, menace, trail, and terrorize. Although there are many key words to aptly characterize the act of preying, the operative words worth examining, in this instance, are the words; prepare, encroach, ambush, habit, hunted, target and spying.

Eagles and lions are classed as predators, because they exist by preying on other living things. Some human beings fall within this culpable paradigm inasmuch as they too, similar to an eagle or a lion, victimize, plunder, and destroy another for his or her own gratification. Why are preys unable to resist attack? The victim is defenseless, in the face of an assault, since the predator has tracked the victim’s pattern, studied and deduced the victim's movement, and subsequently knows the best course of action to take in order to annihilate the victim for his or her own gain. From this interpretation, therefore, it is easy to view child predators more no different than animals. Child predators engage in the art of piratical hostility and marauding as well, and just like a lion or an eagle, they too capture their prey. However, in the case of child predators, they target defenseless children as a means of fueling their sick and repulsive desires.

Predators are vigilant. Predators engage in a kind of a reconnaissance misson, if you will, and could likely have an innocent child under surveillance, by the time you conclude this sentence. Here's a sobering thought; a predator knows your schedule almost as well as you do. They know when you are at home, and they know when you’re not; they know what time your child arrives home from school; and they know where you hide your keys. Predators may even be aware of the design of your home and where your bedroom is, in relation to where your child sleeps. For some of us, a predator may be IN our homes, and therefore, have full access to our children. Either way, because they scope out situations, predators know what time you arrive at home, and they know what kind of parent you are.

The key to protecting children, then, is to be just as vigilant and as methodical as the predators are and "beat them at their own game," so to speak. Empirical indication supports that most children who become victims of these societal piranhas, are children that are regularly alone. For example, the unaccompanied child, playing; the child that strolls home alone, from the bus stop; the child whose parents that are too busy to pay attention to what is going on; the child allowed to loiter alone, in stores, or other places, and those others who are often isolated from the rest of the family.

The gist to take away from this commentary is that predators do not care what genealogical, socio-economic, cultural, ethnicity or any other dissimilarity a child may enjoy, but they do care about opportunity. Like a frenzied drug addict, and equivalent to a starving lion, a predator anticipates his or her next, 'hit.' Your child is nothing more than a 'hit' to a predator. As previously discussed, predators are methodical, and they anticipate an opening to attack your child. The question is not whether they will attack again, the question is, when. The key to guaranteeing that this attack does not happen, however, is to prevent it before it does. Be proactive. Predators are watching you; you should watch them. Predators know where you are; you should know where they are. Predators wait for an opportunity; you refuse to create an opportunity for them.

It would be negligent not to stress to readers to KNOW WHO YOUR NEIGHBORS ARE! The safety of children depends upon this! Since the checks are so easily done, it is almost irresponsible and careless not to do so. Simple things like, checking our local Public s*x Offender List periodically and introducing yourself to new residents when they move into your community, are ways you can help keep children safe. If you work, one suggestion is to develop an alliance with people you have complete trust in, and either have your child stay at that person’s home until you arrive, or ask that individual to monitor your children. Another suggestion is, depending on the age of your child, have your child or children volunteer at an organization, while you are at work. Don't ever, under any circumstances, allow your children to be out-of-doors after dark whether you reside in a gated community or not. The bottom-line is, never let your guard down and monitor your children, all the time, anywhere and everywhere.
