A FEW REASONS WHY THE SWINE FLU WORRIES ME--FOR YOUR NOTES! (344 hits)
I attempted to meet with the Birmingham Alabama-Jefferson County Health authorities some time in April or early May when from my extensive knowledge of diseases, viruses, air-borne agents of infectious diseases and other pathogens-how they react to humans and immunological responses documented as to how or what can be expected in humans once they come into contact with various viruses such as that the swine flu is now visiting upon us humans.
Of course, my research reveals that humans-at least one-has given the virus (H1N1) to the PIG-it caught the flu from a human!!! These are the craziest times on this planet since I have been alive! But I pleaded with the authorities to implement public awareness programs, especially in the schools, where our young people have been struck hardest.
Now you say, so what? The advice I wish to give to those that will heed is to remember, be ever alert for 'sick' people around you (especially in confined areas). Cover when coughing, sneezing (droplets/mist travel at over 100 miles/hour) once projected from the mouth. By the way, keep those hands from the eyes, lips other sensitive areas. Wash often, especially after visiting restrooms-home or public. Teach children-carriers of many germs-to do the same.
This flu (swine) is different. not seasonal but ongoing. We know it is not seasonal but tends to strive when the weather is cooler as the northeast (Boston, New York City-great masses of humans) and along with that many deaths. The young have never been exposed to this virus and therefore, have not built an immunity against bodily attack therefrom. We do not yet have a vaccine against it . We do not know or understand what this virus will do next and that is the dilemmna and the next "regular" flu season is almost upon us
When the World Health Organization raised the 'alert' level of this virus to level 5, I KNEW we had a problem on our hands-A CRISIS IN THE MAKING, IF YOU WILL- and my campaign with the health authorities began. My efforts were dismissed! Now we have a PANDEMIC on our HANDS!! see www.who.org (I believe). And unless we forget, I had almost 13 years exclusively, in evaluating infectious diseases, including AIDS/HIV, the many other opportunistic diseases-cancers like Kaposi's sarcoma, the pneumonias, AS THE RESULT OF ANY COMPROMISE IN THE BODY'S IMMUNE system AND ITS INABILITY TO FIGHT OFF INFECTIONS and for which a healthy body could easily ward off-during my stay with the Social Security Administration. And I TAUGHT THIS INFORMATION FROM COAST-TO COAST-TO COAST-TO COAST AND IT IS MY PLEASURE TO SHARE IT WITH YOU!
I ask my friends to follow along and be forewarned because you are then 'fore-ready! I will keep everyone updated as we near the coming 'regular' flu season. And yes! The Jefferson County Health authorities have already informed me that there are grants available now through them. What about the rest of youhealth professionals.
