What can an Accountant do for you (443 hits)

After giving you a little background about me. I would now like to give you a little snapshot of the field I'm in and what impact it can have on you.

Accounting involves alot more than counting numbers and working nerves. We analyze and report the financial health of companies, help save money, help position companies to make more money, identify risks that can be either beneficial or detrimental to financial health and so much more.

As part of my career I chose to always incorporate giving back as key to my upward movement. I started doing tax returns for low wage earners (by federal standards) in high school. You'd be amazed at how many errors I saw in their returns and how the "tax prep" business has taken advantage of so many of our sisters and brothers. It upset me because I saw firsthand the struggle that many single mothers went through to care for their kids and to see these monsters taking even a dollar from them was a dollar from a bill payment or dinner or some other need that was barely being met.

Before I knew it I became the financial guru and everyone was coming to me with their problems. I began helping women stretch their $300 welfare check and $200 food stamp allotment. As long as they stayed committed they had all their needs met and money to spend on entertainment. People who, like me, never heard of accountants began to realize what one could do for them.

Accounting has allowed me to properly handle my money and be a good steward as God would have me be. I am not creative at all, but accounting has allowed me to be creative. I can invent creative ways to help people meet their needs and obtain some of their wants. I can invent complex and simple computations to assess financial stregnth of companies and help them meet their financial goals.

Accounting has given me a purpose, a goal and something to fight for. It has opened my eyes to the great disparaties within this nation and how they have lasted for so long. Knowledge is power money is a means to an end and God wants all of us to have them both. He understands the freedom that financial strength can bring you. So does this nation. Which is why people of color are often led down disparing career paths, have higher unemployment rates, higher incarceration rates, receive lower pay and recognition, not given proper education and so forth.

No knowledge equals no power. No power equal no say. No say means I control you. I don't know about you but the only person I want controlling me is GOD.

Be blessed and stay beautiful my strong lovely woman.
