First Dominican Council woman elected in New York!! Sisters on the move! (2320 hits)
Dominican Women in New York are a force to be reckoned with. Recently a conglomeration of activists met at Rutgers Univeristy -Newark to talk about issues impacting on persons from the Domincan Republic. It was a day long conference that addressed the needs of this particular facet of the Latino community.
Julissa Ferreras who will now represent the 21 District- in Queens- New York, an area comprising East Elmhurst, where I was reared and also the latter home of Attorney General Eric Holder, also includes Jackson Heights a very strong Latino neighborhood as well as Corona, sometimes tagged as Corona-East Elmhurst.
This victory will beckon other Dominicans to get involved, soon rivaling and I predict surpassing both Cuban and Puerto Rican movers and shakers in the political arena.
The very best to her, who knows she may one day become a United States Senator!
