Does It Really Matter What They Think? (236 hits)

In these economic times we are forced to let go of false images. Some of us simply can't afford to keep up the front. Some of us simply choose not to play that game any longer. And that's a good thing. We're getting back to what matters most. Our true selves.

When we stop shopping to cover up our insecurities and stress, we are left with just us in the mirror. And if we look deep and hard enough, we'll discover the person staring back at us is OK just the way we are.

We'll find that person we got out of touch with long ago because we were so busy running here and there, doesn't have to be accepted by others. We'll also find the company we kept to keep up the front, weren't truly our friends. Some were merely acquaintances. Misery loves company, so many of us ran with people who were also running from themselves, especially those at work. Those we lunched with and those in the office who gave us empty chatter about what they were doing for the weekend, what they were buying, and who they met.

Release Others Judgments of You

What does it matter if you can't afford the $200.00 evening out with others who don't seem to be affected by the economy. And maybe you can afford it, but choose not to spend your money, just in case. Does it really matter what they think? Perhaps it is evident to them you have had a financial shift. If you feel judged. silently thank them for showing you who they really are, and then move on to find those who support you no matter what state you are in.

What will any of this matter one hundred years from now?

Today many of us are faced with having to sit still and listen to not just the voices around us, but the voice that really matters. The voice inside of us. Not the voice that worries, runs lack, or is scared. That's the ego running its stuff again. But the quiet loving voice that tells us we are going to be OK. We'll get through any challenge facing us. If we listen closely we will hear things like, "The economy is part of the pendulum of life. Eventually it will swing back. That's the law of nature. Everything that swings low or high will come back to the middle. It's just a matter of time."

And so, it's our job to turn to the quiet comforting voice inside of us that says "I love you for who you are, no matter what they say". Nothing outside of ourselves will give us that love. Not our family, not our spouses, not our children, not our parents, not our jobs, and certainly not our bank accounts. You can only give it to you. Be still and know.
