The Montgomery Center/The New Wisdom in Wealth and Health Workshops (866 hits)

Today's Workshop was very interesting. When I arrived for my 10 am session another lady was completing her discussion on the importance of proper nutrition. The importance of drinking enough water and flushing the kidneys. It was very interesting and a lot of questions were asked at the end of her session.
Then it was my turn. I was asked to talk about legal advice and wills. Well, instead of the old ho hum, I'm a story teller.
I began to share a few stories about how my grandfather thought he had properly prepared for my mother's well-being after his home going celebration to be with the Lord. And how things did not work out the way he had planned because she was from his first wife and his second wife had a different idea since she out lived him and up dated their will after his death. Well, that was years and years ago and Mom is still alive and well. The property is alive a well and growing green grass with no one living there. The bad memories outweight the thought of the battle for rights at this point.

We talked about how to go about choosing an executor for your living will. Some questions we discussed that is important to consider is:
1. Will the person you choose keep your wallet or purse for you in your absence and return it to you the way you gave it to them in the first place?
2. Will the person you choose service your personal needs when the time come; bathroom, bath, food-service when you can't feed yourself if need be?
3. Will the person you choose care for you children the way you would while waiting on a court decision if need be?
4.If you are elderly and you must live with this person, will they allow you to have as much independence as you can tolerate or will your rights be taken away?

The answers to these questions are very important and the audience were very receptive and responsive. Most were seniors and were very concerned about their next stage in life.

They also had many questions about Identity Theft and how to protect themselves. Should they sign the back of theif credit cards? The answer is no, write instead (ask for photo ID).
Should they carry their social security cards on their person? The answer is no, secure them at home and if you cannot remember your number you can supply it upon request.
We will do another workshop as a follow-up however most were given some tools to help them rethink their immediate situations and stated they would start to get their houses in order.
