I really am moved to blog on this senseless death. Senseless, yes, medically so. According to doctors colon cancer that hastened the death of this sultry , survivor is the one cancer that can be cured.
I have mentioned personally that the Ralph Lauren Cancer Center -gives free cancer screening to all persons who are not able to access examinations due to lack of insurance.
I didn't want to go , but my neighbor and his wife went so they bugged me in a good way. After putting it off for quite a time--I think a year--I finally went --dreading the procedure. Instead I found wonderful, compassionate and professional care givers from the doctors to the anesthesiologist.
The technician happened to mention that it's unfortunate that Blacks and Hispanics do not avail themselves to this diagnostic test. He also said, colon cancer when caught early is really easy to cure. They simply cut the polyps and monitor you for a year. I was blessed, that I got a 10 year clean bill of health, though I don't plan to take that for granted.
It's baffling that someone with so much money could avoid going for an examination. Even as famous as she is, they would have taken her as a patient in the Harlem facility.
Her age is not the factor in this case she was 81-yeas old. She had been a dancer all of her life --So for 2009..please make sure you have your examination especially if you are 40+, keep your digestive system clean, with fiber, green vegetables, fruits, and good water.
The flip side was the Rev.Charles Leonard, Pastor of Mount Zion Church of Christ in Lower Manhattan, he turned 106- years of age today. Still preaching an looking mighty fine, strong, smooth unlined face. So it's not about age..it's about health.
