The Murder of My Cousin Veronica Williams (2627 hits)
Veronica Williams was my first cousin. She was a silent victim of domestic abuse or intimate partner abuse as it's called now. She had been pistol whipped, shot at, whipped with a belt, choked, slapped, punched and kicked. He even held her down one day and cut her hair. Last month, he finally killed her. When she decided to break the silence, she left and fled to family. On November 17, 2008, she went to the courthouse to file assault papers and obtain a protective order. When he knew that she was there, he waited for her outside. When she was on her way to her car, he attacked her. He stabbed her over and over again. Three days later, she died, leaving behind 3 beautiful children. It was all over the news and in the newspapers in MD. You can read about her at www.baltimoresun.com. She was a beautiful young woman. She would have been 29 last Saturday(Dec. 13, 2008). She homeschooled her children. She was with them all the time. She did hair on the weekends. There is a fund set up for the children at Bank of America. Donations can be made at any branch to the Children of Veronica Williams Assistance Fund.
Even Experts don't really know why women can't leave or leave and come back. For some women, if they do get out, they are harrassed, stalked and killed. I started a story awhile back about a woman in an abusive relationship long before I knew the extent of my cousin's relationship. I put it to the side to work on another. However, I have come back to this story and this time I want to complete it. Once completed, I would like to dedicate it to my book to my cousin. If anyone knows of a good literary agent or traditional company that I may contact, please, please, let me know. I don't want to use the publishing company who published my first book. Unfortunately, I'm not 100% satisfied with them. I look forward to your replies.
i am sorry for your loss- i commend you and encourage you to tell your story- its heartbreaking-do not let your voice be silent- i will buy your book if you have one come out-
