Let's Get To Know Obama's Cabinet: Steven Chu, Energy Secretary (956 hits)
Chu was one of three scientists who shared the Nobel Prize for physics in 1997 for work in cooling and trapping atoms with laser light. He's a professor of physics and molecular and cell biology at the University of California, Berkeley, and has been the director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory since 2004, where he has pushed for research into alternative energy as a way to combat global warming.
It is the oldest of the Energy Department's national laboratories, doing only unclassified work, and in recent years under Chu has been at the center of research into biofuels and solar technologies. He is a strong advocate of renewable and alternative energy research.
His atuobiography is stellar. He comes from a family of intellectuals..several members hold 2 and 3 Medical degrees simultaneously. He grew up in Garden City, Long Island, New York. Below is his autobiography.
Marta, what will we do without you? WHAT office have you been appointed to?-LOL:)
Ok, i've stopped crying now (sniff) now I'm beaming bc I actually understand a little about what Chu will be doing. I am in the process of reading a book, The Antonym of Apathy, by Hilary Kyle. It is very descriptive about the bomb, labs, etc. and freezing the atomic/nuclear stuff with laser technology.
In Japan, where the story is centered, brililant child has her own lab at 8 years old. At last I can wrap my mind around comprehending this stuff. Too bad I'm not in high school anymore.....LOL:)-
