Weight Loss Goals For African Women Blessed with Naturally Curvaceous Bodies.

(BlackDoctor.org) -- As African American women we are blessed with naturally curvaceous bodies. People of other ethnic backgrounds go to extreme measures to mimic our natural beauty, but often times we try to go above and beyond what nature tells us to.

Yes, African Americans are struggling with obesity and we need to be proactive about weight loss, but we also need to be realistic about our ideal weights. Like it or not, you have a “set point,” says Cassandra Forsythe, a nutrition and exercise scientist at the University of Connecticut – a genetically determined weight where your body is most comfortable. {Regular exercise for a minimum 30 mins 5 x/week and no starvation methods--eat healthy & sensible meals}...

Remember, as African American women, we are blessed with beautiful physical and spiritual features. Current “ideal” weights don’t necessarily apply to us. It is important to maintain a healthy weight, but it isn’t necessary to go to extreme measures to fit into weight brackets that weren’t designed for the people of your ethnic group.

That's the truth, I myself have struggled with that. But in all, I'm fine just the way I am, and very much comfortable. I think some of us get caught up in beauty in a MAN'S EYE, and we apparently want what they think is beautiful! Well, I could be speaking for my self, b/c that's how I was feeling!

Shalonda it's not just you girl. I have and still get caught up, but I am learning to retrain myself to think about my body and myself in a more realistic light. There's way, too much focus on physical beauty and not nearly enough focus developing inner beauty.
