Young African Americans and Voting
I did the same thing with my children even having my son involved in electing the first African American Mayor of Trenton NJ (Doug Palmer). I worked on the campaign and I took my young son with me. He knocked on doors, attended events, fundraisers and made phone calls. He is soon to be thirty-one, extremely intelligent and well versed in politics today. My daughter is twenty-two, she also is involved and was able to attend her first rally for Senator Obama yesterday in Charlotte. She is excited about future possibilities for this country because of it.
My point is this; it is our responsibility to teach our children the importance of voting way before it is time for them to vote. We are responsible for the next generation. I encourage and challenge you to start today with every young person you know and let them know why it is detrimental to their survival not only that they vote, but understand why it is so important.
Sincerely
