HBCU Presidents Converge On The White House To Meet With President Trump And Leaders

Langston University president Dr. Kent J. Smith, Jr. visited the White House on Monday for the HBCU roundtable. Eighty-eight institutional presidents traveled to Washington, D.C. for the Fly-In and met with a number of constituents including the following leaders: Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) President and CEO, Johnny Taylor, Jr. and other TMCF representatives, Congressman Mark Walker, Senator Tim Scott, Congressman Trey Gowdy, Congresswoman Virginia Foxx, Speaker Paul Ryan, and Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma. They also met with the Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, Vice President Mike Pence and President Donald Trump.

Langston University receives more than $39 million annually in federal funding to support programs such as student financial aid, research, and grant activities.

While in Washington, D.C., President Smith was present during President Trump’s executive order signing. He had an opportunity to advocate for Langston University with appearances on Roland Martin’s News One Now Show and American Urban Radio Network with April Ryan. He also met one on one with Senator Lankford.
