ISBN Numbers, Why Are They so Important?

Kim Durham · Saturday, September 3rd 2016 at 11:03AM · 220 views
(ISBN) Numbers are important to help identify your book in whatever format. That number is directly attached to the book, author, and publisher. For the self-publisher, it is important for people, companies, bookstores, and libraries to be able to associate that number with your name. I found several articles that will answer your questions about ISBN’s.

I would also suggest that anyone looking to purchase, ISBN’s not purchase used numbers or discontinued numbers unless you really know what you are doing and trust that company. I have read horror stories of self-published authors, finding out that their number was a dud, or their information was not associated with the number. So be careful and do your research. Personally, I recommend buying authentic numbers use the official site for ISBN’s, which is Bowker. The link that I used, to get to the site is below

Amazon is just a platform you use to sell your product. Books are another product right, and if you publish your work under your name. ‘it should be yours and yours alone.’ That’s why it is important to purchase your own ISBN identifiers. Why would you want someone/company other than you, identified as the publisher when you put in the work? When you google Kim Walton “My Motivation,” that name had better popup as the publisher, or I am suing someone’s ass. The same goes for the author, who is picked- up by the publishing company. When you google them or their work, you should see their name and the publishing company…right?
Note: I hope that the information provided above, helps those who need it. It took me almost a year to research ISBN’s and understand there importance when it comes to publishing. I’m glad that I did; remember to do your own research, never follow someone blindly.
If you find something that will aid, help, and instruct, please share…share…and of course, share.
