ATLANTA, November 4, 2015—ASPiRE (@tvASPiRE), in partnership with the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans, today announced that it will present the world premiere of t “The Souls of Black Girls,” an award-winning documentary featuring Emmy®- Award-winning actress Regina King (“American Crime,” "The Leftovers”), Jada Pinkett Smith ("Gotham," "Hawthorne"), rapper/political activist Chuck D, journalist/newscaster/author Gwen Ifill, singer Erica Campbell and cultural critic Michaela Angela Davis, among others. The documentary will air exclusively on ASPiRE, Wednesday, November 4 at 8 p.m. EST, with an #AfAmedFilms Twitter chat during the screening. ASPiRE will present an encore of the documentary at 9 p.m. EST, with additional airings scheduled.

“The Souls of Black Girls” will premiere on ASPiRE as part of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence Film Screening and Discussion Series (AfAmEdFilms). AfAmEdFilms highlights films and multimedia that depict positive and compelling stories of African-American students, families and communities striving for academic excellence. The series encourages active engagement and highlights resources to facilitate opportunities for caring and concerned adults to support the learning and development of African Americans.
