HERBIE HANCOCK SELECTED TO RECEIVE 2013 KENNEDY CENTER HONORS
Herbie Hancock is among four other individuals to receive the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Honors Award. Hancock the only African American selected among the five patrons. Herbie Hancock is has excelled in music as a keyboardist, bandleader and composer has proven a worthy selective because of world impact of gifted music. The other also superb honorees include Opera singer Martina Arroyo, singer songwriter and pianist Billy Joel, guitarist and songwriter Carlos Santana and screen and movie star actress Shirley MacLaine.
The Kennedy Awards honors individuals whom have shown great achievements in their talents and performances throughout the world and highlights cultural and professional contributions of honorees.
The honorary medallions will be presented December 07, 2013 followed by the gala on December 8, 2012 at a State Department dinner hosted by Secretary of State John Kerry. President Obama and Madame President Michelle will also partake in the ceremony and attendance. The program from the ceremony is scheduled to be aired December 29, 2013 on most CBS stations.
