Getting back to the topic of supremacy, supremacy was important during Prophet Muhammad's time because he taught that the Mahdi (Guided One) would come out of his lineage or blood line. The Mahdi is the prophesied redeemer of Islam who will rule for seven, nine or nineteen years- (according to various interpretations) before the Day of Judgment (the Day of Resurrection) and, alongside Jesus, will rid the world of wrongdoing, injustice and tyranny.
This is what the whole supremacy thing between the Sunnis and the Shiites is really about. When Prophet Muhammad was poisoned many were planning on who would take over the movement. The Red Arabs and the Black Arabs split upon his death and this is where you get the whole Sunni against Shiite thing from. The Original Shiites were the Dark Arabs that fled into what is now Sudan.

Shiites and Sunni's are "different" but fundementally...THEY'RE BOTH MUSLIMS!!! And the war between the Sunnis and the Shiites in the Middle East is similar to what you see taking place between the Bloods and Crips, they're just gangbanging to see whose supremacy will prevail.
I would say, fundamentally, they call them selves muslims, but the real question is are they muslims?
If the definition of a MUSLIM is one who submits their will to do the will of ALLAH (God), can a Sunni or Shiite be in division as two seperate camps, and be considered the actuality of what a muslim is? I would call that conflict with in the perception of the reality of being a muslim.
