It’s a known fact most people over the age of 55 don’t normally need a lot of things. They usually have a house full of clothes, accessories, photos, books, gadgets, and usually a lot of junk. So why not get grandma and/or grandpa the gift that keeps on giving – a computer, computer class 101, and a social media class.

Here are the top 10 reasons why a computer and educational classes are a great gift idea and a health boost for senior citizens.

1. A class in basic computer skills and other social media classes help to increase brain cells and may prevent or delay Alzheimer ’s disease, according to Helpguide.org -- Alzheimer’s and Dementia Prevention.

2. Searching the world-wide web can challenge the elderly and elevate their self-
confidence.

3. A class on social media can open up a world of new friends and opportunities. Find a Facebook or Twitter class in the Baltimore area.

4. Social networking can prevent the onset of depression, especially for those who are retired and/or live alone. According to WebMD, along with proper diet and exercise, taking time out for fun and relaxation, not overworking, and saving time to do things you enjoy, may work together to prevent a depressed mood.
