My name is Sharde' and I am a graduate student pursuing my doctorate at UC Santa Barbara to study communication in Black families and Black romantic relationships. This summer I am starting a new, exciting study examining the effects of female friendship circles on romantic relationships.
This study consists of Black and White women completing a pre-study questionnaire, diary logs, and a post-study questionnaire. Participants will complete a diary log right after every conversation they have with a group of female friends regarding a conflict with their male romantic partner. This will take place over a 3-week period.
I am writing to you because I am in DESPERATE need of Black women who are currently in romantic relationships to participate in this study. The research within the Communication discipline lacks the perspective and experiences of Black people, particularly Black women. With this, projects such as mine are critical for furthering the knowledge in the research field on female friendship social support circles, as well as increasing public awareness about the effects of women discussing their relational problems with their female friends.
Would you be interested in participating in this study? All participants will be mailed a $15 Starbucks gift card as a compensation for participating. The surveys should not take too much of your time during the 3-week time period and all of your responses are 100% anonymous.
