North American Free Trade Aggreement downfalls

Nancy Tackie · Sunday, June 27th 2010 at 11:35PM · 82 views
Ever since college I have always been interested in relocating to the US...even if it was just temporary.
Majoring in Economics, learning about different markets, GDP, GNP's and sustainable development, it didn't seem like a far off dream. I travelled all the time to the US, met so many people, which made the move more enticing.
...Then reality hit, it isn't as easy as it sounds!
So you have to have a job offer before you can get a TN-1 Visa, but you can't get a job offer cause they want you to be able to work in the US. So here we are... catch 22. Why doesn't NAFTA include labor as part of the aggreement. It's easier to immigrate to the US if you're from a developing country than it is from Canada. Go figure?

Sister Nancy,

I hear you loud and clear! I have been a proponent of Comprehensive Immigration Reform for a long time not just because the situaltion with the Mexicans, Haitians, and other immigrants who are having difficult times since NAFTA onset, but also becuase the US Immigration System is seriously outdated and needs a overhaul.

The system really isn't fair and of all the people in the world who should be able to immigrate fairly easily here, I'd think it would be our Northern most neighbors and inhabitants of the same continent. Go figure.

Its too bad you're not a nurse, because it's a field that is readily easy to get a visa for. I hope you will consider your options and if all else fails~~~ study nursing! Thanks for your blog.

Thanks for the response!
I have thought about getting into the medical field but still as a business analyst, so I'm just trying to find the right courses that will give me the right skills to be effective in that industry!

But it's good to know that I'm not the only one with that view!

Sister Nancy,

Don't count nursing out, because there are many areas where your business analysis knowledge would be useful ( Nurse Manager, Health Care Administration, Director of Nursing, Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Nursing Infomatics, etc...)
