Black American Youth: OUT OF CONTROL: Parents running out of HOPE

Black youth in America are being troubled by the mixed messages from authority(parents, teachers, religion) and society(media, peers and neighborhood). On the one hand, youth are being asked to conform to rules and the pathway to success...but once they mesh with their peers or around schoolmates, the saga of vice commences. They are exposed to the easier path through intolerance, explicit s*x, and entertainment. Parent control is waning each year the child grows and behavioral disorder too often raises to the level where the police must be called in to account.

Brawls, shootings, mass rapes and murder now plague Americas cities as the black youth become more and more out of control. There is a solution....There is an answer...But, parents are so busy trying to make ends meet, many time they have not the time to address the problem.

Black Youth are getting bored with the options handed down to them. They see their life in the ghetto not changing no matter how many positive strides Black people as a whole are making. It seems so much easier to impregnate a young girl, market drugs and gang bang then follow a course of discipline involving read, writing and doing the right thing.

The setting up of a new nation in Africa presents a new set of options for Black youth in America. In this case their efforts will result in a positive differance that they can realize, feel and taste. Being involved in new factories, new roads, new highways, new colleges, new transit systems....on top of a new environment with exotic animals, beautiful horticulture and exquisite gems will have a way of absorbing most if not all the energy of the youth and convert it to positive energy of reconstruction. They would be directly involved in the development of their homeland....In short, establishing a new nation in Africa will be just what the doctor ordered for todays failing youth.

Black youth need a reward system that is real, tangible and most of all stimulating to the them. Youth, no matter how we slice it, are not dumb. They know there is something wrong with the American system that rewards the some youth differantly than them. Black youth will say tell adults to look at the rise in unemployment...why should I go to college and be goody goody only to be let down and end up on welfare like my cousins, aunts and uncles.

Debra, what you speak are all good ideas of correcting many of the elements of decadence in society. The problem is that we, as Black Americans are not in control of legislature. It turns out that Black crime generates money for the American legal system. The lawyers get paid, the courthouse gets paid and the state or county gets paid. Black parents can yell and complain in communities but as long as the legislaturers are white, they will think differant as long as the crime is not bleeding in their own backyard.

The only way for Black Americans to take charge of the affairs of their youth is to have land of their own. Then blacks can pass laws that are tailored for the disposition of their own kids. White youth have a vested interest in going to college, trade school or living a upright life. Their parents, uncles and other people that look like them are in charge. If they cannot find a job when they get out of college....their parent can make a phone call....and some buddy will GIVE them a job. Black youth are loosing interest in life's normalcy in America. They will say that even if they do all the right things.....American society is still against them.....AND THEY ARE RIGHT.....So Black youth needs new incentives, new reward objects, new goals.....that puts a spark in their eyes.

This single mom once asked me to speak to her child that was having trouble coping in school. So I mentored him to build a science project. And if it is competitive, he would win a MP3 player....the youth said already got one....I said then you will win a cell phone.....the youth said already got one.....I said then you will win a DVD player....the youth said already got one.....My point, is that here we have a troubled child but yet his mother has been rewarding him with objects fit for a star pupil.....Even with all of these objects....the child was bored. In short, Black parents need to be in control of our neighborhoods, communities and society....then we can dictate what vices come in and the structure of schools. As long as we are mere consumer-citizens...then we are helpless to the ruling majority.

Sis. Truth, the nation building project encompasses several dimensions of activity. On the youth level, much like the ONE STOP for unemployment registration, our strategy is to be included as one other option for the 18 year older who is considering his future. Shall the Black youth join the army? Shall the Black youth go to college ? shall the black youth stand in line to seek employment without any skills ? or shall the black youth sign up for the Nation Building project. Once they sign up they will have to complete 1 1/2 years of vocational skill training in home construction, computer aided drafting, air conditioning service and electrician training. Once they complete the hours of training, they will be assigned project work in one of the 5 countries in Africa. They will be involved in home construction and climate control in Africa.....the reward is monetary or a new car depending on service....The Black youth...both male and female would be very excited.....A chance to study something useful....a chance to build and study in Africa....a chance to develop their homeland for their people.....Black youth would be interested again.......Many of the black youth will want to stay and convince their stubborn parents to come to Africa......Then we can get back control of our youth.

Brother Jamal I think your point is really good, but I was looking for you to say that our youth need their fathers to be actively participating in their lives. I blame the fatherless homes for the major problems with youths. I hope your Nation Building Project has a blurb in it to address this issue that is so out of control in the Black community.

Sis. Jen....Fathers have a critical role to play in the stability and adherence to the "right thing" in the home. The problem is that white civilization in America knows that. Stability in the black home would mean a even playing field that black youth and white youth would have to play on. That would ruin the ideology that white kids are superior to black kids. Joblessless and employment transfers move fathers out of the home. Crime moves fathers out of the home. Then the Black man's lack of control of his temper moves fathers out of the home. Fathers that present a chaotic family life, yelling at the mother or abusing the mother does more harm then good for the children. In short, American civilization is against a happy congenial home life for the black family. Black Americans have to work twice as hard and make critical sacrafices for the home structure to work with white civilization orchestraing to the contrary.

White civilization preferes to force the black man out of the house. Then he (the white man) can take over caring for the Black women and children. Whites would prefer the role of taking good care of their families and taking rotten control of the the dysfunctional black family. A solution is a community approach to raising the black family meaning strong black male role model should step in to help with mentoring roles of black youth in the neighborhoods or community. Even though, they are not part of the immediate family, these black male role models would be part of the extended family which could help keep black youth on the right track.

Growing up, parents in our neighborhood took an interest in us. They would call home and tell my parents of issues of concern. The neighborhood was interested in all of the children of the area and did not hesitate to step to make correction.

This is true, but how do you plan to raise up Black men to be role models especially fathers to their children? How do you specificly plan to target them?

If you were to sum of the problems facing Black American men they reduce to 4:
(1) lack of responsibility
(2) education
(3) abusive
(4) fear of God
Our "nation building" project will deal with that in that each position carries a responsibility tied to it. These responsibilities translate to a task that will correspond to a specific project. We are not after all 40 million black Americans. But, target million that have skills relevant to our modernization projects. Some will want their skills enhanced with some vocational training courses. Our organization Africa on Wheels, Inc. will link up the training to the "nation building" project. That deals with the education part. Then the abusive problem is something that black men will face up to and have to spend special effort to resolve by talking among black men engaging in temper management programs as part of the orientation. Further, putting it in all the schools from K-12 to all the colleges and universities. Black men will be enundated with self-control psychology in their homeland in Africa.

As far as the fourth problem. Many black men in a sub conscious sense have gotten mad with God as if He has abandoned them. But with the realization of their own land and heaven on earth...Black men will appreciate Gods deliverance to His promise and that God did not forget about the tribulations of the Black American male. A love and bond will be rekindled between black men and God and that is a very good thing. Then black men will learn how to fear God and only God.

I am 26 years old and I can still remember being a teenager. First of all the teenagers who are out of control did not just becom e out of control overnight. It is a problem with the home. First of all if a woman had a baby and is in the ghetto, and then the kids turn teenagers, and she is still in the ghetto something is wrong. That tells me that is a triflin mother. Even if she is on welfare there are grants, and she can go to college while she is sitting in the projects. I know because that is what I am doing. I have four months and I will have my associates in health information technology, and then moving on with my bachelors. Alot of associates degrees in the healthcare field can move a single mother out of poverty, such as physical therapy assistant and dental hygientist. I was a out of control angry teen and alot of time when kids get like that they are fed up of their home life. Also the prior generation plays a role in this because alot of the crack selling they learned from their fathers or lack of fathers. This generation did not bring in crack. Crack had already destroyed many families especially the mothers. The prior generation not all but the ones who are guilty need to take responsibity for thei

their lack of parenting i know this does not really have alot to do with your post and i am not as educated as you, but i am just trying to give a diffrent perspective. I dont know about moving to Africa, because if they are triflin in America. I believe they will just bring that same mentality to Africa.

jamal Abraham Wednesday, March 17th 2010 at 11:37AM

Leslie, your point is relevant and real, no doubt. This condition of "triflent" citizenry in black neighborhoods as you characterize is a result of how city and state government wish to spend their money. Large investment dollars go to the suburbs whereas rehab dollars and police protection dollars go up in the urban neighborhoods. This is because the government is not really looking out for the black neighborhoods. A consequence is an increase in vagrancy, triflience, unemployment and crime.

In Africa, the city and state government will be "for" the urban neighborhoods thereby invest dollars into neighborhood development like vocational schools, fitness centers, libraries, Museums, Restaurants, and other businesses that employes citizenry of the neighborhoods. It will be our own government and we will be in control making us be more responsive to the needs of the community and family.
